Real Time Observatory Status

<<Currently Non-operational>>

Latest all sky image.  If the telescope is not in its parked position, you will see a label in the sky as to where it is pointing.

Notice that North is in the upper left with south on the lower right.

Current operational status.  In its parked position, the telescope is horizontal.

Latest All Sky Projection

<<Currently Non-operational>>

Horizon projections take the all sky image and 'dewarp' it to create an image looking towards the horizon. To achieve this the image needs to be compressed at the bottom and heavily stretched at the to so you will see image quality degrade the further up the projection goes

Latest Keogram

<<Currently Non-operational>>

A Keogram is an images composed of Vertical slices taken from sequential images in time order.  The slices are stitched together to form a single image displaying with a timeline of the selected part of the image.  The keogram displays an abbreviated summary of the whole night or day time activity in one image.

In suburban San Diego, an SQM reading below 19.5 generally will not be a good imaging night.  This happens all to frequently.

Our sun

The above image is from the ESA/NASA Michelson Doppler taken in the continuum near the Ni I 6768 Angstrom line. The most prominent features are the sunspots with a bit of granulation/ convection cells visible. This is approximately how the Sun looks through a solar filter.

304 Angstroms

The above image was taken by the Extreme ultraviolet Imaging Telescope  at 304 angstroms.

Sunspot groups labeled.
